I am Raisa Hashem from Australia. I was born in Bangladesh and raised here for a few years. My family left Bangladesh when I was 7 years old. We returned to our country at the age of 16 to experience the Bangladeshi culture, norms and tradition. After a nine months visit I went back to Australia with my family. I have studied in Biomedical Engineering and my major was Biomechanics. I have researched on Orthotics and Prosthetics.
I came to Centre for the Rehabilitation of the Paralysed (CRP) in January, 2016 for one month visit and learnt about it from Rowan English, Prosthist and Orthist, Educator Advisor ICRC. I was personally interested to work on ICRC Prosthetic Feet and that is the reason behind my visit to CRP.
CRP is the only organization providing Orthotics and Prosthetics services in Bangladesh. During my one month visit to CRP I found the staff very friendly and dedicated to their work, the patients hopeful and motivated. I did not face many difficulties in communicating with people because I can speak and understand Bangla very well.
When working with the Prosthetics and Orthotics Department of CRP I realized that the staff need more training on what they are doing. The prosthetics which are made in CRP have many limitations and are not so long lasting. CRP can improve the quality without increasing the cost of manufacturing them. The services of this department should be generated under a well-formed Managerial Board. I know this service is new to the people and there is great scope of improving this service at CRP. Though I lived here for a few days, I became very attached with CRP. I am planning to come back after a year. My best wishes to CRP.
